In this Moment: Make Some Thing Great
A call to excellence, for myself and others, through a limited edition letterpress print.
In 2020 I created my first manually-made relief print.
An act of simultaneous hope and desperation.
Like many of you, that year held far too many unfortunate surprises for our young family. And, with a path we had been pursuing and investing in for nearly 14 years suddenly cut off, I needed to find a new way…even if in the short term.
So I made something very different, a departure from my history as a digital maker - a large relief print made from all hand carved letters. It seemed like a season for dramatic shifts.
The message came easily:
MAKE SOME THING GREAT
It balanced nicely typographically, and strong design was a high prioirty.
More importantly though, I am a firm believer that every season of life, even if full of opportunity and circumstances and dissapointment, is a chance to change that moment and place for the better.
Our lives and talents are gifts to be used to make the world a better and more loving place. Our time is limited and I feel a strong calling to be a good steward of whatever people, place, gifts, and time I am blessed to be amongst.
This year seemed like a good season to return to the phrase for a redesign after 5 years of innumerable creative mistakes and lessons learned. This time, smaller and more accessible with dramatically better printing and a different design flavor.
This is a print made for you and for me. A small typographic reminder that whatever you are doing, big or small, is an opportunity to do something GREAT.
YOU are the only one in your unique position of people, place, time, with your talents, skills, and personality to make a difference that no one else can!
Whether you are painting a canvas, or capturing street photos, or making meals for little ones, or caring for parents, or helping in the PTO, or volunteering at a call center, or serving meals, or organizing the HOA, or starting your garden, or helping clients, or volunteering in your church, or filing papers, or boxing endless widgets…
MAKE SOME THING GREAT.
Whatever season you are in, seize it with excellence.
Imagine if everyone committed to using their days well and without regrets
because today is a gift. What a better world this would be!
That's what this print is: a simple reminder of all those things. Hand crafted and “perfectly imperfect” in two versions:
❤️ REGULAR - Strong and simple with only one font, and visually flexible enough for a variety of spaces for you or for them.
❤️ A PREMIUM MIXED TYPE VERSION - An even *bolder* approach with a strong visual emphasis on “Great” printed in a large calligraphic font in red. For anyone who likes bold typographic contrast.
Each design was printed on three different papers: speckled White, textured tan, and textured gray.
ONLY 12 OF EACH ITERATION WERE PRINTED
